You don't want to be taking out an annual policy as it would be throwing away money that is not needed as short term cover can only cover you between 1 and 28 days.
The main thing to think about when you are deciding on your short term car insurance is it's only cost effective for the occasional break; a month would be the maximum i would suggest as anything longer is going to start getting expensive.
